XFX GeForce 7800 GT - PAGE 9
Tom Karpik - Thursday, August 11th, 2005

Doom 3

Doom 3 sees a definite improvement with the addition of a second 7800 GT only at 1600x1200 if you are not using AA/AF. Since it doesn't make sense not to use AA/AF with such a powerful setup, the second set of numbers will undoubtedly be of greater interest. In this second set, we can see that Doom 3 benefits greatly from the second 7800 GT -- even 1024x768 saw some healthy improvements.

Half-Life 2

Half-Life 2, with its extreme sensitivity to CPU clock speed, actually causes the SLI overhead to have a visible impact on performance at 1024x768. To be honest, the second 7800 GT only becomes worthwhile at 1280x1024 and up with AA/AF. Anything other than that, and you're basically wasting your money. Then again, you have to be crazy not to be using at least some AA/AF in an SLI rig.
